A Conversation with Jill Schlesinger ’87

You are invited to an evening with renowned financial expert Jill Schlesinger '87 and your friends from the Brown Club of Georgia. We will explore the critical role of financial literacy in empowering women to take control of their financial futures and achieve economic independence.

The virtual conversation with Jill aims to inspire and educate, encouraging women to take control of their financial destinies and make informed choices that pave the way for greater financial security and independence. Whether you're a current student, recent graduate, or a seasoned professional, this conversation with Jill promises to be a valuable resource for women at all stages of their financial journey.

We'll have the opportunity to enjoy the virtual event, then to have a discussion together to connect about the insights we've learned. Join us for an enlightening evening!

Jill Schlesinger ’87

Jill is the Emmy- and Gracie-award winning business analyst for CBS News, where she covers the economy, markets, investing, and anything else with a dollar sign. Jill is a weekly guest on NPR’s “Here and Now” and is the host of the "Jill on Money" podcast and of the nationally syndicated radio show "Jill on Money." Jill also writes the nationally syndicated column "Jill on Money" for Tribune Media Services.

 

Moderators

 

Resa E. Lewiss, M.D. ’92

Resa is a professor of emergency medicine at Thomas Jefferson University and an internationally renowned point-of-care ultrasound educator and champion for diverse, equitable, and inclusive workplaces. She attended college at Brown and medical school at Penn, followed by an emergency medicine residency at Harvard and a fellowship at Mount Sinai St. Luke’s Roosevelt. A physician healthcare designer at Perkins&Will, her design focus has been ultrasound hardware and workflows. She’s helped to redesign the built environment of a Harvard ICU and an infectious diseases unit in Malawi. As host and founder of the Visible Voices Podcast, she’s interviewed dozens of subject matter experts on healthcare, equity, and current trends. Her writings have been published in a variety of scientific journals and popular press outlets. Her new book "MicroSkills: Small Actions, Big Impact" is forthcoming from HarperCollins in 2024.

Elvia Perez ’22

Elvia is a first-generation Mexican American who recently graduated from Brown University with a B.A. in economics. During her time at Brown, she founded EmpowerU, an educational tech startup addressing educational disparities by connecting students with resources. She achieved recognition for her work and was a Peer-Entrepreneur-in-Residence and a Social Innovation Fellow — and held leadership positions in various organizations on campus. She also completed an internship at Barclays Investment Bank and is based in Los Angeles working on EmpowerU's mission. Elvia is part of the 2023 PledgeLA Founders Fund cohort, supporting Black and Latinx-owned businesses. Her strong commitment to uplifting the Latinx community is reflected in her various initiatives aimed at providing support and opportunities for Latinx students.
