Gardens at Rosedale

JOIN THE BROWN ALUMNI CLUB OF CHARLOTTE FOR A VISIT TO HISTORIC ROSEDALE.

This unexpected property off N. Tryon Street, about 3 miles from Uptown, is centered on an 1815 house occupied by related Charlotte families until 1989.  Around the house are 8 acres of gardens, including "treasure trees" and a new garden which is a memorial for the enslaved people who once lived and worked at Rosedale.  Our visit will include a guided tour of the house, exhibit on the African American Legacy at Rosedale, on-your-own walk around the gardens (there is a written guide to tell you about the plantings); visit to the blacksmith shop where the blacksmith should be working; and lunch in a roofed but open-air pavilion.

The Club will provide a selection of sandwiches, water and lemonade, and plates, cups, etc.  Please bring a side or a dessert to share, plus any other beverages you would like (but no alcoholic beverages please).

The house tour will be at 11:30 a.m., with a second tour at 1 p.m. if you aren't in time for the morning tour.  You have to be on a tour to go inside the house.  Children are welcome, but be aware that there are some fragile items inside the house.  Also, be aware that there are about 7 steps to get into the house and more to get up to the second floor.

DEADLINE FOR REGISTRATION AND PAYMENT IS APRIL 17, 7 p.m. (so Rosedale staff knows how many people to plan for).  Event is: Rain or Shine.
