Join BCDC for a special walking tour to explore the history of Black Georgetown led by the Georgetown African American Historic Landmark Project. Georgetown is the oldest neighborhood in DC, and amid its rich and storied history, we're pleased to continue exploring the too-often "hidden in plain sight" legacy of free and enslaved African Americans who worked in, lived in, and assisted in building Georgetown over the last 250 years. The entirety of your $10 registration fee will support the operations and mission of this vital, community-based nonprofit organization. Lunch following the tour will be provided by BCDC at City Sliders.
We'll kick things off on the Georgetown University campus, where a reckoning with the institutional history of slavery similar to Brown's own has been in progress recently, before proceeding to other sites in the western half of Georgetown, including the Holy Trinity Church and the Georgetown Theater. The tour will last approximately two hours (including a quick break at the halfway point). After the tour we'll gather for lunch to allow space for reflection and conversation.
Other notes: Wear comfortable walking shoes! In case of severe inclement weather, we'll postpone for a later date. Please view BCDC's current events policy before registering.
This event is proudly co-sponsored by the Inman Page Black Alumni Council (IPC) and the Friends of the Center for the Study of Slavery & Justice (CSSJ).
